Having faced second placed Bristol Rovers in the League Cup quarter final last time out, Villa face fifth placed Torquay in the first round of the FA Cup and lose - their first first round exit since 1923 when all clubs were required to enter at that stage.
Vic Crowe's Torquay trouble hits again as Villa are dumped out of the FA Cup at Plainmoor, exiting at the first round stage of the FA Cup for the first time since 1933.
Meanwhile, Lew Chatterley made his final appearance for Villa aged 25 before moving on to Northampton Town in September 1971. Lew played for Villa between 1962-63 and 1970-71 making 164 appearances and scoring 27 goals.
