Following the departure of manager Alex Massie from his position in August 1950, the Villa board decided to turn the clock back 20 years and assemble a management committee to take care of first team duties whilst the search apparently went on for a permanent manager.
Despite the bizarre management committee structure and uncertainty behind the scenes Villa open the season with a win over near neighbours Albion thanks to goals from Johnny Dixon & Colin Gibson.
