 1989-90 Season Review

The season started with 3 draws before a stutter of losses either side of a strong win over fancied team Tottenham Hotspur.

Villa then embarked on a 7 game unbeaten run, winning 5 culminating in a televised 6-2 victory over Everton at Villa Park.

Momentum was stalled slightly by two successive defeats but Villa were becoming increasingly comfortable in the top tier and went on a superb run of 21 games, losing just 3 and only 1 league game, whilst winning 16.

Villa were genuine title contenders once again.

Unfortunately though Villa's stellar form couldn't be maintained over the final 15 games with Villa knocked out of the FA Cup in the Quarter Finals and winning just 6 league games whilst losing 5 to hand the title to Liverpool.

Graham Taylor's third season as Villa boss then proved an entertaining success story highlighted by a number of impressive wins and performances and the appearance of arguably the best player to ever don the claret and blue.

Sadly Taylor left the club at the season end to take over as England manager having achieved 2nd place with a bright future predicted.
