 1973-74 Season Review

Villa's first 10 league games brought 5 draws and 3 wins but goals were seemingly at a premium, Villa then hit 5 against Cardiff - scoring as many as they had managed in the previous 8 games collectively. Villa's form continued to hold up through October and by the start of November they had lost just twice in 15 league games.

Villa however then ran into a poor run of form without a win in 9 games, losing 6 in the run up to the new year before the turn of the year saw an upturn but despite only losing 6 league games of the final 22 Villa ended the season way off the pace in 14th place and we're resigned to another season in the second tier.

1973-74 was to prove Vic Crowe's final season as Villa boss and whilst he couldn't complete Villa's comeback with a second promotion in three years he had delivered a team and results that proved the catalyst for what was to come.
