 1919-20 Season Notes

The first season following the resumption of league football after World War One got off to a disastrous start for Villa. Winning once and losing eight of the first ten matches suggested matching even the lowly 14th place finish of 1914-15 would prove challenging. Villa however recovered and a pre Christmas 11 game run delivering 10 wins, including 7 in succession, helped Villa climb the table. Although form in 1920 was indifferent - not least because the squad contained 21 new players - Villa finished in 9th place but found enough consistency to win their sixth FA Cup.
