 1901-02 Season Notes

Villa recovered from the previous season's shock 15th place finish to claim a top 10 spot in 8th place. Goals - or rather a lack of them - however were still a major issue, just 42 scored in the league with only new boy Jasper McLuckie making it into double figures.

The season however was mainly notable for the loss of two original club legends - centre back Jimmy 'Jas' Cowan and forward Jack Devey. With 664 first team starts between them and Devey hitting 187 goals they alone had seen villa crowned 1893-94 League Champions, 1894-95 FA Cup Winners, 1895-96 League Champions, 1896-97 League Champions, 1896-97 FA Cup Winners, 1898-99 League Champions and 1899-00 League Champions.
