MATCHDAY QUOTES

"Collymore and Alan Wright then hit the Pompey woodwork as the visitors, who had led Villa 2-0 in the first match at Fratton Park which finished in a 2-2 draw, were in danger of being over-run."

*The Irish Independent*
Thursday, 15 January 1998

Savo Milosevic’s first-half strike gave Aston Villa a 1-0 victory over managerless Portsmouth and set up a fourth round derby clash with midlands neighbours West Brom.

Stan Collymore turned Steve Staunton's long ball into the path of Milosevic, who steadied himself before firing home from close range for his sixth goal of the campaign after 21 minutes.

Collymore and Alan Wright then hit the Pompey woodwork as the visitors, who had led Villa 2-0 in the first match at Fratton Park which finished in a 2-2 draw, were in danger of being over-run.

But Portsmouth created more chances after the break and John Durnin was unlucky to see his looping header rebound off the crossbar.
