Midfielder Saša Ćurčić made his final appearance for Villa as substitute aged 25 before moving on to Crystal Palace for a fee of £1,350,000 in March 1998. Villa had paid Bolton Wanderers £5,400,000 for Ćurčić just 15 months earlier. Ćurčić made 33 appearances for Villa and scored just once in a forgettable spell on the pitch - although tales of his off field activities are legend.
Future Villa centre forward Dion Dublin lined up for Coventry.
