ASTON Villa keeper Mark Bosnich could face criminal charges after being accused of giving a Nazi-style salute to Spurs fans.

The Australian international was interviewed by police following complaints by Spurs supporters.

Bosnich was also booked by referee Peter Jones for "ungentlemanly conduct and the Leicestershire official will report the matter to the FA.

They could level a misconduct charge.

The referee's attention was drawn to the incident by a linesman and ref Jones said:

"I booked the Villa player for ungentlemanly conduct after my assistant referee Mike Tingey spotted his actions and I am reporting this to the FA."

A police spokesman at Scotland Yard's press bureau said Bosnich had not been arrested.

Bosnich later telephoned BBC Radio 5 Live's Six-o-Six programme to apologise for his actions, which he said were meant as a joke and had been taken out of proportion.

Tottenham's winner was scored by Danish star Allan Nielsen his first goal since his arrival from Brondby.

Spurs manager Gerry Francis talked about the win but said:

"I don't suppose too many other people here are interested. It is all about Bosnich isn't it”
